The various airport operator companies making up the Fraport Group saw a significant recovery from the pandemic in 2021, with total passenger traffic increasing by 43.2% year-on-year to 136.4 million passengers.
Thanks to the strong rebound over the European summer holiday period in 2021, recovery was especially significant at Fraport’s airports in Greece, Bulgaria (Burgas) and Turkey (Antalya). These airports, which serve popular European summer holiday locations, saw year-on-year increases in passenger traffic by 102.4%, 125.0% and 125.7% respectively. In addition, they make up about 30% of total commercial passenger traffic of the Fraport Group.
However, despite the strong recovery, total passenger traffic for 2021 was still 46.3% lower than that for the year 2019. Out of these airports, only Pulkovo Airport’s 2021 passenger throughput had a difference from the 2019 throughput of less than 10%.
In terms of Fraport’s financial performance, it has managed to improve its revenue from EUR1.68mn in 2020 to EUR2.14mn in 2021, a year-on-year increase by 27.8%. This figure is still 42.2% lower than that generated for the year 2019.
