The Flughafen Wien Group (FWAG) is the operator of Vienna International Airport which serves the capital city of Vienna in Austria. Through Flughafen Wien AG, it has been listed on the Austrian Stock Exchange since 1992.
Shareholders of the company include the Province of Lower Austria (20,0%), the City of Vienna (20.0%), the Private Employee Participation Foundation (10.0%) and Airports Group Europe S.à r.l (39.8%). The remaining 10% shares are free float.
Apart from Vienna International Airport, which served more than 30 million passengers in 2019, FWAG also operates the Bad Vöslau airfield , Malta International Airport in Malta, as well as Košice Airport in Slovakia. It holds 10.1% of shares in Malta International Airport plc which operates Malta International Airport and 66.0% in Letisko Košice – Airport Košice, a.s, which operates Košice Airport.
Thanks to the easing of travel restrictions, the development of “Green Pass” as well as a rapid roll-out of a vaccination campaign in Europe in 2021, FWAG was one of the many airport operators that saw a significant recovery in terms of passenger traffic over the year across its airports.
In 2021, FWAG saw a 35.8% increase in total passengers handled across its three airports of Vienna, Malta and Košice compared to 2021, even though it was still 66.8% lower than the number of passengers handled in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
