In 2021, ASUR’s airports in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Colombia saw a rapid recovery from the impact created by the global COVID-19 pandemic that had started from early 2020.
Total passenger traffic at airports operated by ASUR in 2021 was at 49.4 million, a 92.9% increase from the 25.6 million passengers handled in 2020. Total passenger traffic at ASUR’s airports in 2021 was also 11.3% lower than that in 2019.
At ASUR’s Mexico airports, which contributed to 59.4% of total passenger traffic at ASUR airports, passenger traffic in 2021 grew by 76.3% from the previous year to reach 29.1 million.
Much of this traffic had been driven by the growth at Cancun Airport, which handled 22.3 million passengers. This was a 82.1% increase from that the number of passengers handled in the previous year.
Passenger traffic at San Juan Airport in Puerto Rico reached 9.7 million, which was a 99.9% increase from the number of passengers handled in the previous year. In fact, San Juan Airport’s passenger traffic for the year 2021 had surpassed its 2019 traffic by 2.%.
